Fulani Marriage Rite Gone Wrong As Suitor Dies During Flogging

Fulani Marriage Rite Gone Wrong As Suitor Dies During Flogging

The traditional Fulani traditional marriage rite, Sharo, went horribly wrong weekend, as a suitor, Yari Inusa, died being flogged by another suitor, Ahmed Saidu.

Saidu who is now with the Katsina State Police Command following his arrest after the sad incident at Durmin Biri village of Kafur Local Government Area.

The duo were said to have engaged in a Fulani traditional game known as Sharo, in which suitors flog each other with the strongest and bravest marrying the bride.

There are reports that rather than Saidu flogging Inusa on the buttocks or back, he decided to hit him (Inusa) on his head leading to his death.

Katsina State police command spokesperson, DSP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the incident, said father of the deceased, Inusa Muhammed, reported the matter to the Police, which led to the arrest of the suspect, Saidu.

Isah said the victim was hit in the presence of many, who came to witness the traditional game, noting that the victim fell on the floor after being hit and was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead. Isah said: “The corpse has been released to the family and buried according to Islamic rites. The suspect, upon arrest, confessed to the crime and as soon as we conclude investigation, we shall charge him to court.”

Leave office or office will leave you, Obasanjo tells veteran African leaders

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised long serving African leaders to leave office because if they did not, ‘office will leave them.’

According to him, a reason why most of such leaders stay on was because they had fears. He added that they were, however, becoming a rare commodity.

“Well, really after 12, 15 years, some of them up to 30, some have fears, I think that now they are becoming a rare commodity. And maybe if you don’t leave office, what happens, office will leave you,” he stressed.

Well, really after 12, 15 years, some of them up to 30, some have fears, I think that now they are becoming a rare commodity. And maybe if you don't leave office, what happens, office will leave you.

He reserved praise for Angola’s dos Santos, who recently opted to step down after 38 years in charge. Obasanjo said he hoped other leaders will follow dos Santos’ lead. “Not too long ago, president dos Santos decided to leave office, maybe others will see wisdom in what he has done.”

The 80-year-old was addressing the topic of political tension in Togo, where he is on record to have called on President Faure Gnassingbe to leave office.

“I believe whatever he has to do in terms of development, whatever ideas he has, he has he must have exhausted them by now, unless he has something new that we do not know,” he told the BBC late last week.

Newly leaked audio phone conversation shows that Aso Rock Cabal wanted President Muhammadu Buhari to resign because of his health condition provided his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, will emerge as Vice President

SR released new audio conversations between alleged members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabal.

The audio revealed that the cabal suggested that President Buhari resigns from office because of his health condition and Abba Kyari, Buhari’s Chief Of Staff becomes the Vice President as current Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will take over power as president according to Nigeria’s constitution.

In the audio, the caller informed the recipient of the new development concerning President Buhari nephew, Mamman Daura and Mr. Abba Kyari, saying that they had sneaked into Kaduna from abroad on a chartered plane.

The caller further stated that Daura and Kyari were received by the Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS), Lawan Daura.

The caller disclosed that; “They held a meeting, including Sani Zango Daura. They said they held a meeting; they are looking for a way out. They are in a cul-de-sac.  They said Mamman Daura is trying to convince the President to resign on the condition that Abba Kyari be made Vice President.”

US Army Consultant endorses ‘Operation Python Dance’, says Military have no Choice

Adeyemo Akintunde is thinking about life.

Re: “Operation Python Dance”

Here in the United States, I’ve worked with some top military brass (my boss in this picture is a colonel and counsel to General Vadnais of the United States Army).

Military strategists don’t like war/conflicts, but they’ve no choice. In any military operation, things can get ugly very fast.

When I (as a law clerk to the General Counsel) participated in “Operation Northern Strike” scenario, Captain Ryan tasked me to review a pocket-size rule of engagement for soldiers, so I included all statutory and humanitarian laws in it.

During the simulation exercise, we got some feedbacks from foot soldiers and their leaders: JAG (acronym for military lawyers) officers are unrealistic, they said.

When real hostilities begin or any military operation is initiated, and a soldier faces an imminent threat to his life, he doesn’t revert to a pocket-size manual on the rule of engagement (he doesn’t call the Commander-in-Chief)his first instinct goes to his basic training: And that can mean anything, depending on individual soldiers.

Does a soldier face the risk of being tried in a military court, for violations of human rights? Yes, but guess who will judge him? A soldier (or soldiers) who had been in his shoes. With all the atrocities committed in Iraq, Israel, and Afghanistan, how many soldiers are in prison?

My point is this: Don’t mess with soldiers with guns and bullets. Let’s embrace peace, for “dead men tell no tales.”

Biafra: Soldiers Surround Nnamdi Kanu's Residence

Biafra: Soldiers Surround Nnamdi Kanu's Residence

There is palpable fear in Umuahia, the Abia State capital as some soldiers have laid siege to the Afaraukwu country home of the leader of the Indigenious People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, PUNCH reports.

The soldiers arrived the community on Tuesday barely 48 hours after the clash between the Army and IPOB members on Sunday evening, which left three people injured.

The soldiers returned with about 10 Armoured Carrier Vehicles and seven Hilux vans.

The development has caused panic in the area, forcing shop owners to close immediately.

Some of the soldiers also invaded the Abia State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists on Aba Road, Umuahia, and destroyed laptops and other valuables.

According to journalists at the secretariat, the soldiers claimed they saw somebody taking photographs of them from the building.

The Chairman of Council Mr. John Emejor has confirmed the incident.

Emejor who expressed disappointment over the incidents said a National officer of the Union Ezeogo Bonny Okoro was slapped by one of the Soldiers.

He said, “Our press centre was invaded by soldiers, two Journalists lost their IPads and phones, while a national leader in the office was attacked.

“Our stand is that those involved in this attack on innocent Journalists should be fished out and punished in line with the constitution of the Country.”

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade, Major Oyegoke Gbadamosi, confirmed the incident.

He said he had asked the chairman of the Council to send the photograph of the damaged office to him.
